March Goals...

Fitness
Workout 4x a week I am going to say yes to this one...Not great workouts each time...
Run 45k this month- I was close...but I blame the weather, the musical, and I guess my laziness on the fact that I only got in 40k this month :(

Guys and Dolls- Backstage

Our high school's musical production this year was Guys and Dolls. I got the privilege and joy to organize the stage crew. I love musicals/plays and the excitement that happens on stage (and behind the stage)! These five high schoolers were amazing at working quickly and quietly. We had some pretty heavy stuff to move, but we just got faster and faster as the shows went on. Two of the students were also the "curtain" people- making sure they were perfect with their cues to open and close that curtain.

Our job: move stuff

Just waiting for the show to start-
we work hard :)

Things left on stage by accident over the course of 3 nights:
trash can
bamboo cup (rolled in front of the curtain so we never saw it- until it was too late!)
small black bench against a black wall

Pretty good considering how many things we had to do....

Thinking of my dairy farming relatives...

My friend and I were waiting to pick up her son from the bus station and we found this cute little shop. Even milk cans for tables :) We had milkshakes and "toast." Yes, they have something called "toast" here in Thailand and it is like a dessert. You can have different sweet toppings on your toast.

chocolate/banana and some kind of a custard

Story Hour

Story Hour 2014-The "one-in-a-million" story hour!

Sorry for the lack of cute kid pictures...I have some, but they will have to wait for a newsletter. Don't want to have too many cute kids on my blog :)
One of our secretaries came to read to us!
She read books with "millions" in them....
Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb is a great book for kids to help "act out." We listened to it once and then all the students helped act out the story. We assigned students different jobs- picking the apples and plums, showing their rings, etc. They all got to drum- dum ditty, dum ditty, dum dum dum

We made drums-
out of a tin can, balloon, paper, lollipops.

some of the students' drums...complete with stickers

snack- trying to make it look like a drum with drum sticks :)

Staff Appreciation Lunch....

The parents at our school always come up with a fun theme for our staff appreciation lunch and week. This year it was "New York" and they out did themselves again!

These signs look so real!

Getting to the dinner was a little scary...

Once we got to Broadway it was wonderful....

Everyone got a sneak peek at the musical- Guys and Dolls-

The food was great!

Newspaper Themed School Spirit Week- part 2

Day 3
Business Section-
I forgot to take a picture, but I didn't look that different from a normal day.

Day 4
Sport Section- School colors, etc
I just wore my school t-shirt...and forgot to take a picture again...

Day 5
Weather Section (for elementary)
You know those weathermen never really know what the weather will be like, so you need to be prepared for anything! Umbrella, gloves, and hat....but it is 90 degrees right now, so I will just wear a summer outfit :)

I just thought I would throw in another photo- isn't this cute....
A former student gave us the Berenstain Bears' Tree House that she made in her pottery class. I brought my Berenstain Bears and so we have a cute little display.

Newspaper Themed School Spirit Week- part 1

This semester for "school spirit week" our high school came up with the theme of "newspaper sections." A different section of the newspaper each day.
It was a fun week!

Day 1:
Special Feature: Dr. Seuss' Birthday (for elementary).
Who wouldn't want Thing 1 and Thing 2
as their elementary secretaries!
Day 2:
Comic Section: Frieda from Peanuts
She is an amazing girl- cause she has naturally curl hair :)

Read these amazing quotes by Frieda:

"What's the good of having naturally curly hair if nobody's jealous?!?"

"People always expect more of you when you have naturally curly hair!"

Check out these links to learn more about Frieda:

March- Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

This year for March's reading month we are challenging the K-8th grade students and their teachers to read for a total of a million minutes! They can count when people read to them as well as when they read anything- books, magazines, articles, blogs, etc. We want them to realize how often they are
reading without even knowing it!

What do we read? We got some crazy answers!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! We will be reading Dr. Seuss books
all week long!

Max the Millipede and the Million Minute March is our "slogan."
We will watch him grow down the hallway as we get closer and closer to a million minutes!
Max the Millipede - writing challenge

I was hiding millipedes today...

Our theme- 2 days down.... 26 more to our celebration...
